Was down to Winona over the weekend to see my daughter Karen. They have a beautiful home on this end of Winona coming from Rushford, don’t even have to hit a red light or get into traffic. They live in such a quite place now and their backyard is down a steep hill and there is a creek at the bottom. Every morning and night they have as many as four deer come in their back yard and of course Ed put out ear corn for them. The morning I was staying there, I looked out the big living room window about 7:00 and there stood a big beautiful deer eating on the ear of corn. They have many birds, squirrels, chip monks and a big fat coon coming and eating. Karen puts out lots of bird seeds, peanut in the shell, and apples. You feel you are in a big forest when you sit and watch the cute animals eat and play. What a great weekend. Thanks Karen and Andy for taking me down.

Asparagus, strawberry salad
1/4 cup sugar 1/8 tsp paprika
2 tbls cider vinegar 1/8 tsp Worcestershire Sauce
1 tbls poppy seeds 1/4 cut vegetable oil
1 1/2 tsp sesame seeds 1 lb fresh asparagus (trimmed)
3/4 tsp grated onion 1 pint fresh strawberries, sliced
1/4 tsp salt (optional) 1/4 cup crumbled blue cheese (optional)
In a jar with tight-fitting lid, combine the sugar, vinegar, poppy seeds, sesame seed, onion, salt if desired, paprika and Worcestershire sauce, shake until sugar is dissolved. Add the oil, shake well. Cover and refrigerate 1 hour. In a skillet, cook the asparagus in a small amount of water until crisp-tender, about 6-8 minutes, drain well. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hr. Arrange the asparagus and strawberries on a serving plate, sprinkle with blue cheese if desired. Pour the dressing over all. Serve with a slatted spoon.
