Curtis helps Smith; Falcons win

For the Mabel-Canton Cougars boy's team, offense has predominantly flowed through center Steve Smith. In many games, the Cougars could've used a recurrent deep threat to both give them another scorer and to loosen up things inside. Against Fillmore Central, they got that threat. Senior guard Derek Curtis hit four of five long balls for all of his 12 points. Smith did his usual thing. He hit 10 of 13 shots, 7 of 10 free throws, for a game 27-point, 10-rebound night. It just wasn't enough against the rival Falcons. FC got season-highs from senior guard Drew Bahl (17) and point man Zach Olstad (13). They also got 14 each from their two most reliable scorers, James Skaalen and Tyler Eickhoff. M-C committed 26 turnovers, FC 13. In a team effort, the Falcons surged to victory 73-61. It's their 3rd win in four games after just two in their first 16.
