Heather Melissa Laine and Adam Richard Laine, Lanesboro, appeared before Judge Robert Benson in District Court Monday, February 28, 2011, each facing one count of possession and sale of drugs in the second degree. After an extensive investigation by Fillmore County sheriff's investigator David Dyke, and others who assisted him, the defendants were taken into custody for the sale of cocaine, heroin and methamphetamine. The investigation was conducted by using a confidential reliable informant (CRI) and put into operation through a controlled buy of drugs from the defendants at their home. A search warrant in connection with this case had been obtained as well. The Laines are currently in custody at the Fillmore County Jail awaiting their next court appearance which is scheduled for April 4, 2011. Conditional bail has been set for each of them at $100,000 and $1,000,000 unconditional bail.

Lucas James Ernst appeared before Judge Robert Benson in District Monday, February 28, 2011, for sentencing. Based upon the defendant's plea of guilty to the felony charge of theft, count three, the Court found Ernst guilty as charged and dismissed the remaining five charges in the complaint pursuant to negotiations between the parties. The Court further ordered the defendant be committed to the Commissioner of Corrections in St. Cloud, Minnesota, for 21 months concurrent with the sentence he is now serving on a Mower County file. At least two-thirds of this sentence must be served in prison and a maximum of one-third of his time may be served on supervised release, assuming he commits no further disciplinary offenses. Mr. Ernst will receive credit for the 111 days served as of the date of sentencing. In addition, the defendant has been ordered to pay a mandatory minimum fee of $50, and he is jointly and severally liable for restitution in the amount of $11,270.35 to Greenway Co-op in Chatfield.
