This is an unusual letter for me to writing, but I wanted to commend Bonnie Prinsen for her intelligent, articulate review of the Commonweal Theatre's production of Dracula. Unusual because I rarely respond to reviews, unusual because as a Core Artist and Executive Director of the Commonweal one might assume I'm primarily interested in good reviews, unusual because I'm not writing to debate points Ms. Prinsen raises.
I am delighted in her review, not because of its nature, good or bad, but because the level of her debate, clarity of her position and rationale, and the thoughtfulness with which she raises her points, are worthy of some of the finest critical writing about theatre I have encountered.
The Commonweal's mission of bringing professional theatre to our community of southeastern Minnesota is designed to promote deeper understanding of the human condition. When discussion, disagreement, and debate are the result of our work - over the content and not over the quality of presentation - we feel we have achieved a measure of success. Journal and Ms. Prinsen, thank you.
