In last week's Fillmore County Journal, Kimberly Barnhart's article reported that the Fillmore County Commissioners approved a two year extension to the time set for Rushford to retire the 1993 Tax Increment Bond.

The State had already approved the extension which also required the approval of the county and local school district.

The county's approval did not change Rushford's financial arrangements with the county, as no financial aid was asked for, only the two year extension to the time to pay the bond in full.

Because of changes in state laws for payment of income to the city, which were unexpected, the funds Rushford received were greatly reduced.

We will not need to ask for another extension.

The Tax Increment Finance (TIF) money received has enabled Rushford to improve our business district by renovating it. Eighteen different businesses were brought to our city or improved, as well as improved our streets etc.

It has therefore helped promote real growth and interest to Rushford. We have experienced a growth of four residential sub-divisions, many homes, and some apartments. Our tax base has been growing for some years and there are new homes being built.

The county has been receiving additional tax money from Rushford and TIF has played a real part in it.

So, by passing or approving the extension of two years for our payment is also helping the county. Actually the Commissioners did not cover for Rushford, but helped Rushford bring more tax money to the county.
