This election will be very important for us who choose to live and work in rural Minnesota. The representatives we elect to speak for us here and in Washington must understand the problems we face.
We receive less than urban areas for essential services we need. There is the mentality that "Oh, it doesn't cost as much to live and operate a business in a rural community." As a result, schools are underfunded and teachers are underpaid. Medical reimbursements are less in rural areas putting a strain on budgets of hospitals and nursing homes. Farmers are paid less than a fair price for their products and the list goes on.
We work hard and pay our taxes. We have medical bills, drug costs, insurance costs, buy groceries and necessities, and pay our bills while we see services we receive decreasing. As businesses close, local services decline or disappear.
Are we better off that we were two, four, or even six years ago? It's time for a change.
