Our family lives approximately 1.5 miles east of the proposed Heartland Energy and Recycling Facility in Preston.
When we moved to this beautiful area 10 years ago it was very different. The air seemed much cleaner, fresher. You could smell the alfalfa, evergreens, and just plain good smell of the country including the normal farm smells.
Now when the wind is wrong or the humidity is high all you can smell is the Ethanol Plant.
We have no confidence in this new venture. It would really be devastating to both the Preston and Lanesboro communities to have such a plant.
This type of plant should definitely be far away from tourists or populated areas.
Ms. Reinertsen, of the MPCA, herself commented that fluid bed technology is not new, but their use in burning tires is.
We can't take a chance here with this venture. There are many other areas that are better suited for this type of plant.
If this plant is constructed and there is any problem whatsoever with pollution, odor problems, etc. - can you imagine the impact on this sensitive area? Both economically and environmentally.
Wake up Preston and Lanesboro.
