On Monday, September 30, many residents of Preston and the surrounding area attended the public meeting in regards to the Heartland Energy and Recycling facility that very much wants to come to Preston.
It is hard to understand why anyone who lives in Preston would want this to happen after reading the Environmental Assessment Worksheet that you can obtain at the Preston Public Library or the Fillmore County courthouse, which costs $1.00. It is well worth your time to educate yourself on this issue.
After listening to the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency representative speak that evening, there are too many unanswered questions regarding the whole operation. There has never been another facility like this in the United States. Do we, Preston residents, want to be guinea pigs, and have our healthy lifestyle threatened? I don't think so.
Please, go to the library, pick up the EAW, read it and then send your comments by October 23 to: Kevin Kain, Mn Pollution Control Agency, 520 Lafayette Rd. N. St. Paul, MN 55155.
Ask any questions that you want answered. Your letter doesn't have to be long or elaborate - just to the point, addressing any of your concerns. There is too much at stake here: our fresh air, clean water, great scenery, light traffic that all will be threatened if this operation comes to town.
In closing, please also plan to attend the Preston Council meeting on Monday evening, October 21.
