Fall is my time of the year, pretty leaves, nuts on the ground, smell of burning leaves and weather . . . sometimes raining, sometimes beautiful , and sometimes really windy. We see all the big combines harvesting the corn and beans, neighbors getting in their garden vegetables, bringing in squash, squirrels hiding their nuts getting ready for winter, getting your windows washed, putting on storm windows and the list goes on and on. For me it is looking at those beautiful leaves and watch them fall so softly. Years ago it was digging potatoes and us kids hated that job, it was dirty ( on our hands) and sometimes it was cold and windy too. Then we had to help mother get her ground cherries in, just a few of the things that had to be done in the fall. Ready for winter.
. . . . . Chuckle A young executive was in a leather goods shop contemplating the purchase of a cowhide briefcase. He like it, but when he heard the price he told the saleslady, "why, I could buy a whole cow for that price!" "Yes, you could," she admitted, "but it wouldn't have a zipper." . . . . . Don't knock a wall down until you find out why it was put up. . . . . . I have had more trouble with myself - than any other person I know. . . . . . Mr. Smith is so tight he is completely out of debt. . . . . . Instead of waiting upon the Lord, some people want the Lord to wait upon them. . . . . . To my forgetter My forgetters getting better, but my rememberer is broke. To you that may seem funny, but to me, that is no joke. For when I'm "here" I'm wondering if I really should be "there" and when I try to think it through I haven't got a prayer! Often times I walk into a room, say "what did I come here for?" I wrack my brain, but all in vain a zero, is my score. At times I put something away, where it is safe, but gee! The person it is safest from is generally, just me! When shopping I may see someone, say "hi" and have a chat, then when the person walks away I ask myself, "who the heck was that?" Yes, my forgetters getting better, while my rememberer is broke, and it's driving me plumb crazy and that isn't any joke. God bless all you forgetters. . . . . . ~Until next week, Annabelle This Week's Recipe: Apple Cinnamon Muffins 1 1/2 cups flour 1/2 cup sugar 1 3/4 tsp baking powder 1/2 tsp salt 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon 1/8 tsp ground nutmeg 1 egg 3 tbls vegetable oil 3 tbls apple sauce 1 medium tart apple(peeled & grated) Topping: 1/4 cup packed brown sugar 1 tbls flour 2 tbls cold butter or margarine 1/2 cup old-fashion oats 1/4 cup finely chopped nuts In a bowl combine the first six ingredients. In another bowl, combine the egg, milk, oil and applesauce. Stir into dry ingredients just until moistened. Fold in apple. Fill greased or paper-lined muffin cups two-thirds full. For topping, combine brown sugar and flour. Cut in butter until crumbly. Stir in oats and nuts. Sprinkle over muffins. Bake 400º 18-22 minutes.
