As a dairy farmer, I was glad to hear that Sharon Ropes was endorsed by the Minnesota Farmers Union. I know that she will make an outstanding State Senator. She came out to visit our dairy farm and several other farms around Preston and Harmony. Many rural families have talked with her about unfair marketing practices, the threat of corporate ag interests and how desperately low milk prices are driving good farmers into more debt. Sharon listens and will stand up for us!
On the other hand, the current senator has a disappointing record on farm issues. For example, a couple of years ago he supported relaxing the Minnesota Corporate Farm Law. Apparently Sen. Kierlin thought it was more important to support for investor-owned agriculture than his own struggling small and mid-sized farmers! Sharon Ropes understands the challenges facing our local farmers and small towns. She will oppose any further changes in Minnesota's Corporate Farm Law. Please join me in electing her as our new State Senator.
