Every now and then we hear complaints about how government has gotten too big, doesn't care, and the different branches or agencies don't work well with each other. My wife and I owned 2 of the buildings in Lanesboro that were destroyed by fire on April 7th of this year. We attended all of last weeks trial, and we were pleasantly surprised to see how well the County and State worked together. Peter Orput the prosecuting attorney from the State Attorney Generals office, Fillmore County Captain Daryl Jensen and his staff, Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) Special Agent Herm Dybevik, Fillmore County Victims Advocate Lois Hackbarth and her staff, Steve Wolf and Rick Kleist from the State Fire Marshals office, J. David Tebow, lab analyst with the BCA, and all of the County staff at the Fillmore County Courthouse were so professional and caring in their handling of this case and in their relations with all of the victims. We just can't say enough good things about the way these professionals from different State and County agencies worked seamlessly together. We felt confident throughout the entire trial that they had Lanesboro's and all the victims best interests in mind, and that they would do the very best that they could to put forward a true and convincing case against Lanesboro's former police chief so that we could all put this behind us and start to move forward. This trial really opened our eyes about how the system works, and the people involved warmed our hearts by their concern and dedication.
