I think I may be eligible for a refund! For what, let me explain. I recently gave my annual donation to the Lanesboro Community Chest a fine organization. But a letter to the editor in last week's Journal now has me concerned that perhaps I am not part of this community and probably should not be eligible to contribute to the Community Chest. Why? Because I may be an "outsider."
I say this because for starters, I have been here less than five years and I own a business related to tourism! But, what is funny is that I pay my taxes, I pay my phone bill (phew, I'm listed in the phone book, maybe I'm saved), and I pay my city utilities such that I have water that comes out of my faucet when I turn it on. I obviously need some clarification on the criteria to be an "outsider."
So I am wondering if you, the letter writers, wouldn't mind communicating to me the criteria for what makes one an "outsider." If indeed I fall in this category, maybe I could wear a hat of a special color to make sure I am recognized. Hmmm, this might be viewed as discrimination, perhaps not. I am deeply concerned about this, as I may be eligible to get that refund from the Community Chest. Just give me a ring, I am in the book!
P.S. I don't look good in hats.
