A literal hand full of Fillmore County wrestlers went to the individual state-wrestling tournament (all in class A). None brought home a state title, but three of the five had good showings. At 119, 26-9 Justin Doerr (LARP) advanced to the semifinals with 9-8 and 13-1 decisions. He then lost back-to-back decisions (18-2 & 15-1) before injury defaulting in the fifth place match. It gave Doerr 6th place (in a 16-man field). A junior, Justin will be back next year. At 130, LARP teammate 26-4 Jordan Theede won his opening round match 9-1. Theede then lost 9-3 in the quarterfinals. In the third place bracket, Theede ran off two straight victories, 10-4 and 5-4, before falling 5-0. Theede then won his fourth match of the tourney 6-5 in overtime, to take fifth place. A freshman, the name Jordan Theede should be oft-spoke in wrestling circles for years to come. At 189, Chatfield's 36-5 Juan Gomez won his first two matches 14-3 and 15-2. In the semifinals he fell 5-0. In the third place bracket, he lost 7-4 and 7-5 to take sixth place. Chatfield's Zach Curry (140) and LARP's Alex Hoff (Hwt) did not place. The latter three are all seniors.
