The Fillmore County Journal has launched a book project that will gather the stories from area readers. The theme of the book is “Stories that Tell Who We Are”.

Fillmore County Journal writers Bonnie Flaig Prinsen and John Torgrimson will edit the stories and the Journal will publish the book.

Prinsen, an English instructor at RCTC in Rochester, is a regular columnist for the Journal and Torgrimson is the newspaper’s editor.

Torgrimson said that they are looking for all kinds of stories.

“Everyone has a story to tell,” Torgrimson said. “And we are hoping that people are willing to share their story with the public.”

“It’s great to be working on this project,” Prinsen said. “I think there are a lot of good stories in Fillmore County, and I’m excited to start reading them. I’ve always loved stories, and the older I get, the more I believe stories are the best way we have of understanding ourselves and our world.”

There are only two rules that storytellers need to follow: the story must be true and the authors should be as brief as possible.

The editors note that previous writing experience is not necessary and encourage authors that need help writing their stories to seek the assistance of a family member or friend.

The editors hope to have approximately 100 final stories selected for the book. Editing will take place this coming spring and summer with an expected book printing in the Fall. The book will be marketed regionally.

Authors whose stories are accepted for publication will recieve a free copy of the book that will be published.

All stories submitted must be accompanied by the author’s name, address and daytime phone number.

Send stories to: The Story Project, Fillmore County Journal, P.O. Box 496, Preston, MN 55965, or you can send a story online to journal@acegroup.cc. or fax your story to 507-765-2468.

For more information, call the Journal at 507-765-2151 or go to www.fillmorecountyjournal and click on the Story Project button.
