Casimir "Casey" Zdun, age 89, Harmony and formerly a longtime resident of Prosper, Minnesota, died Feb. 19, 2003 at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital in Decorah, Iowa.

Casey was born June 17, 1913 in Chicago, Illinois to John and Mary (Dzik) Zdun. The family relocated to Granton, Wisconsin when Casey was young where he received his formal education. As a young man, Casey learned the trade of cheese making and worked as a cheese maker in Wisconsin and later in Frankville, Iowa. He then relocated to Prosper, Minnesota where he owned and operated the Prosper Cheese Company. On March 8, 1941 Casimir was united in marriage to Arline Scott in Prosper, Minnesota. Casey was drafted into the military and served in the United States Army in World War II. He was stationed in Memphis, Tennessee and India where he was responsible for the motor pool. Casey was very proud of his service to the United States. Following his military service, Casey and Arline returned to Prosper where they made their home for nearly sixty years. Casey operated the Prosper Garage where he provided repair service for local farmers, motorists and neighborhood children. Casey could always be depended on to take a minute and fix a broken bicycle or wagon. Casey and Arline loved to travel and made many trips throughout the country visiting relatives and exploring new places. Casey enjoyed motorcycles. He owned several Harley Davidsons that he enjoyed both riding and racing in his younger years. He enjoyed talking of his travels and taking relatives on trips so that he could share his experiences. Casey was also a wonderful storyteller. There were few days that Casey didn't take a few minutes to share a story with friends, relatives and customers. His stories were favorites to many and most were based on his life experiences and were always delivered with a smile. He was a member of the Burr Oak Lutheran Church, a life member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by his sister Mayme Czarnecki of Mesa, Arizona, several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Arline, his parents, five brothers, Joseph, Edward, Ernie, Emil and John, and his sister Mary.

Funeral services were Feb. 22, 2003, at the Burr Oak Lutheran Church in Burr Oak, Iowa with the Rev. Hans Floan officiating. Burial was in the Orleans Cemetery, rural Ridgeway, Iowa with military rites by the Mabel American Legion and VFW. Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel was in charge or arrangements.
