Mr. Abraham, 77, of Canton, a former Harmony funeral director, died April 21, 2003 at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, Wis.
Born Aug. 29, 1925, in Winona, he attended Winona Public Schools and joined the Navy after graduating from Winona Senior High in 1943. Trained as a medic, he served in the Asiatic Pacific theater, the Netherlands East India south of the Philippines and later on the USS Sanborn, APA 193, and received several decorations, including two battle stars. Following his discharge in 1946, he attended Winona State College, graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Mortuary Science in 1948 and after receiving a degree from Winona State in 1949 was employed by a Winona funeral home. In 1962 he purchased the funeral home in Harmony and built the new facility in 1965. Mr. Abraham moved to Canton in 1977 after selling the funeral business to Lindstrom's in Cresco, Iowa. His first wife, the former Iva Bess, preceded him in death. On Sept. 30, 1972, he married Elinor Willford Hall in South St. Paul. Survivors include his wife; three stepsons, K. John Hall of Bloomington, Minn., Byron Hall of Canton and Steven (Joanne) Hall of Mount Horeb, Wis.; two stepdaughters, Rosanne (Charles) Gebert of Burnsville, Minn., and Trudy (Fred) Horihan of Mabel; 11 stepgrandchildren; three brothers, Allyn (Ruth) of Eau Claire, Wis., Robert (Lois) of Winona and Richard (Merida) of Shoreview, Minn.; and a sister, Ruth (Donald) Marg of Winona. He was preceded in death by a son and a daughter. The funeral was April 24, 2003 at Canton-Scotland Presbyterian Church in Canton, with the Rev. James Scaife officiating. Lindstrom Funeral Home in Harmony was in charge of arrangements.
