John E. Quinn

John E. Quinn, 79, of La Grange, Texas, a native of Fillmore County, died June 23, 2003 at his home.

He was born Nov. 2, 1923, in Fillmore County. He married Janis Brakke on Nov. 29, 1947, in Rock Dell. She died July 29, 1986. He married Johnnie Mae Groff on June 23, 1988, in Lago Vista, Texas. He served in the Army with the 11th Airborne Paratroopers during World War II in the Philippines and Japan. He had lived in La Grange since 1956.

Mr. Quinn was a member of First United Methodist in La Grange and a member of the VFW, American Legion, Independent Cattlemen's Association, Fayette County Fair Association, the Wednesday 42 Club, and the Swiss Alps and La Grange Dance Clubs, and was an honorary life member of the Gulf Coast and Texas Simmental associations. He started an artificial insemination business with American Breeders Service and a dairy just east of La Grange. In 1975, he went to work for Central Ohio Breeding Association as South Texas sales manager and retired in 1988.

Surviving are his wife; four sons, Mark (Becky) of McKinney, Texas, Jeff (Elaine) of Canyon Lake, Texas, Jim (Cynde) of Garland, Texas, and Jon (Beverly) of Brownwood, Texas; a daughter, Pam (David) Tiemann of Georgetown, Texas; four stepchildren, Julie (Don) Lundgren and Roxanne (Blake) Blakley, both of Elgin, Texas, Max (Debbie) Groff of Boerne, Texas, and Charlotte (Neal) Aaron of San Antonio; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and two sisters, Carol Quinn Close and Adonna Quinn, both of Bemidji, Minn. He was preceded in death by an infant son and two grandsons.

The funeral was held June 28, 2003 at First Methodist Church in La Grange, Texas, with the Rev. Suzanne Steves officiating. Burial was in La Grange City Cemetery.
