Hazel Sedell Johnson, 85, of Harmony, a former business owner and grocery store employee, died July 16, 2003 at Harmony Health Care. She had been ill with spinal stenosis.

Hazel Sand was born April 16, 1918, in Preble Township, Fillmore County, to Sidna (Amdahl) and Hjalmer Sand. She attended Scheie Lutheran Church and worked in the Mabel area before her marriage. On Sept. 10, 1938, she married Robert E. "Bob" Johnson. They owned and operated the Skelly station and Townhouse Restaurant in Harmony. For 25 years they owned the Jem Theater, which they sold in 1986 when her husband became ill. He died in January 1987. Mrs. Johnson then worked in the bakery department at Harmony IGA for a few years. She was a member of Naomi Circle and ladies aid at Greenfield Lutheran Church. She was a seamstress and enjoyed all kinds of handwork, including knitting, needlepoint and hardanger.

Survivors include a daughter, Karen (Lee) Tacang; two granddaughters; and two great-grandsons.

The funeral was held July 22, 2003 at Greenfield Lutheran Church in Harmony, with the Rev. James Radatz officiating. Burial was in Greenfield Lutheran Cemetery. Lindstrom Funeral Home in Harmony was in charge of arrangements.
