Marvin W. Eck, 73, of Spring Valley, died August 14, 2003 at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester.

He was born Sept. 9, 1929, in Rochester. In 1947, he graduated from Wykoff High School. He married Shirley Stien and they later were divorced. He married Mildred Metcalf, and they were married 39 1/2 years. She died Sept. 11, 2000. On Feb. 16, 2002, he married Marie Warren in Spring Valley. From 1951 to l953, he served in the U.S. Army, stationed in England.

He was well known as a stilt walker. From 1947 to 1980, he walked all over the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, and Honduras, with Art Swenson Shows, Joie Chitwood Shows, Shrine Circus, and on his own. He went to school in Chicago to learn radio repair, farmed in Fillmore, and worked for Waters Instruments in Rochester. Later, he moved to Fort Meyers, Fla., and lived there 32 years. He had his own mowing and parking lot sweeping business before retiring in 1996 due health problems. Mr. Eck was a board member of Ed's Museum, and was active in the American Legion and food shelf. He also was a Boy Scout leader in Wykoff and Fort Meyers.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Randy (Sandy) of Fort Meyers; one daughter, Debra (Rich) Hollaman of Fort Collins, Colo.; three stepsons, Tom (Theresa) Warren, and Tim (Marti) Warren, both of Spring Valley, and John (Mary) Metcalf of Fort Meyers; four grandsons; and step-grandchildren. One son, one stepson and one stepdaughter preceded him in death.

The memorial service was August 19, 2003 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Wykoff, with the Rev. Peter J. Sestak officiating. The body was cremated.
