The Fillmore Central Schools band department held its annual 5-8th grade solo and ensemble recital on Thursday night, March 10th. Over 75 students presented performances of solos or small ensembles for a large audience in the high school cafeteria. The guest adjudicator was Minnesota Hall of Fame music educator Tom Haugen from Decorah, Iowa.

Each performance was followed by a verbal critique from Mr. Haugen and was then issued a rating based on a scale and criteria from a judging ballot similar to the one used by the Minnesota State High School League.

Of the 39 performing events, ALL 39 performances received the top, or SUPERIOR rating from the judge.

Awards were also given for the "Best in Site" for the entire evening.

Honorable Mention for "Best in Site" was given to Sam Peters and Alex Lange, trumpet duet; Hunter Aggen and Walker Ward Horn, euphonium duet; Kurtis Herschberger, trumpet solo; Morgan Malley, snare drum solo; and Michaila Skadsem, Lexie Dols, and Haley Ostrom, flute trio.

Receiving Best In Site Awards for the evening were the oboe solo of Rihanna Ryan (5th grade), the clarinet duet of Lee Dyerson and Sara Schultz (8th grade), the 7-8th grade percussion ensemble of Kiel Larson, Morgan Malley, Trace Tollefson, Blake Bigalk, Nathan Birch, Weston Ohl, Megan Hughes, and Logan Dillon, the tenor sax solo of Tyler Christensen (8th grade), and the Trumpet Solo of Alex Lange (7th grade).

Preparing the students for their performances that evening were band directors for Fillmore Central Schools, Lane and Jessica Powell.
