Edward Louis Mundfrom, 84, of Lime Springs, a longtime area farmer and tax preparer, died August 31, 2003, at his home.
He was born May 11, 1919, near Tripoli in Bremer County, Iowa, and attended St. Paul's Lutheran Church in rural Tripoli as a child. When he was 8 years old he moved with his parents to a farm near Cherry Grove in Fillmore County, attended a country school and graduated in three years from Wykoff High School. During World War II he served in the military overseas. On June 11, 1950, he married Gladys Harders. She died in February 1985. He married Jean Borgan on Aug. 9, 1986, and she survives. Mr. Mundfrom farmed in Fillmore County most of his life and also worked as a tax preparer at Ostrander State Bank for 49 years. He was a longtime member of Saetersdal Lutheran Church, where he served in many positions, and was a member of the Ostrander American Legion. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Carolyn (Rick) Olsen of Chatfield; two sons, Edward G. (Barb) of rural Lime Springs and Joe (Leesa) of Winston-Salem, N.C.; a stepson, Duane (Susie) Borgan of Hoffman Estates, Ill.; three stepdaughters, Betty (Hal) Lieghlte of Arlington, Va., Linda (Ray) Murphy of Lime Springs and Marcia (Gary) Murray of Cresco, Iowa; 21 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Ruby Jones of Lime Springs, Wilma (Frank) Peters of Denver, Marie (Ted) Bany of Sumner, Iowa, and Emma Lou (Eldon) Larson of Minneapolis; and a brother, Fred (Dorothy) of rural Spring Valley. He was preceded in death by an infant sister, a brother and a grandson. The funeral for Edward Mundfrom was September 6, 2003 at Saetersdal Lutheran Church in rural Lime Springs, with the Rev. Linda Johnson-Prestholt officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Lindstrom Funeral Home in Lime Springs was in charge of arrangements.
