As the board reviewed the resolutions, the issues of sites stockpiling supplies in road right-of-ways, dust control, and a growing trend of abandoned automobiles accumulating at the sites, was visited several times. The dust control issue appeared to be the most sensitive. At one time the county had researched the cost if the county were to step in and run such a program. A $100,000-$150,000 figure quickly ended such a thought.
Another more reasonable suggestion would be exercising a "Resource Tax" whereby the state allows counties to tax resource products leaving the county such as ag lime, sand, and crushed rock. This would be an add-on tax paid by those purchasing products. No action was taken. The following permits were approved: •Fred Carlson Co., Decorah, IA, sand pit in Sec. 8, Holt Twp. Must post "No Trespassing" signs on property. •Roger Danielson, Chatfield, gravel pit in Sec. 28, Pilot Mound Twp. Must remove abandoned cars. •Pederson Bros., Harmony, rock quarry owned by Rueben Grabau, Sec. 9, Forestville Twp. No stockpiling within road right-of –way. •Pederson Bros., Harmony, rock quarry owned by Donald Haug, Sec. 4, Canton Twp. Must remove abandoned cars. •Pederson Bros., Harmony, rock quarry in Sec. 12, Bristol Twp. No stockpiling within road right-of-way. •Milestone Materials Co., Onalaska, WI, rock quarry owned by Linus Hammell, Sec. 36, Jordon Twp. Control dust issues. •Milestone materials Co., Onalaska WI, rock quarry owned by Dale Greene, Sec. 14, Sumner Twp. Landowner will put down dust control. •Approved final plat for South Fork subdivision in Amherst Twp. •Approved resolution to implement relief from Zoning Administrator’s decision regarding zoning issues. An appeal can be made with in 30 days of said decision to the Board of Adjustment. •Approved resolution to implement Decorah Shale Zoning Ordinance amendment. This discourages the disturbing of the St. Peter-Praire du Chien-Jordon aquifer and thus damaging water quality. Donna Rassmussen, Soil and Water, noted that if "you don’t want a wet basement, don’t build in these areas". •Approved access permit for Brian & Nanette Huggenvik to Co. Rd. 22, Harmony Twp. for a new building site driveway.
