Lanesboro, MN - The Lanesboro Public Library reminds patrons to check out books before the new year, because it will be closed from January 2 through 16, 2012, for renovation. It will reopen on Tuesday, January 17.
The library needs volunteers to help throughout the renovation period, but especially on January 2, 3, 4, 11, 12, and 13. Duties include lifting, moving, and painting. Anyone interested should contact the library staff at 507-467-2649 or email tjohnson@selco.info.
To celebrate its re-opening, the library is planning several special events the last two weeks of January, including its "Hot Reads for Winter Nights" program, a ribbon cutting, the dedication of a meeting room in memory of the late teacher and librarian Rose Bell of Lanesboro, an open discussion of favorite books, an e-books seminar and workshops on turning old, discarded books into visual works of art. Details of reopening events will be announced in early January.
Library Director Tara Johnson said the renovation will include new carpeting, paint for the walls, moving computers to a more accessible area, and reducing the height of floor shelving to give the space a more open feel.
