What are the top reasons for using cloth diapers?

The most common reason I see is to save money. The prospect of being able to save more than $1000 with the first child and thousands with subsequent children is often too much for parents to pass up. Eliminating midnight runs to the store to buy more disposable diapers when you can just put a load in the washer with cloth diapers is a great motivator, too.

Parents are also drawn to cloth diapers for environmental reasons. Recycling is very popular and a great way to limit wasting recourses, but recycling is not available for disposables. They are the third most common item in landfills and it is estimated that it will take 250-500 years for disposable diapers to decompose.

Another great reason for using cloth diapers is the health reasons. Children or parents with asthma can have asthma attacks from disposable diapers. There are fewer incidents of diaper rash with cloth diapers attributed to natural fabrics being used, and parents are apt to change diapers more often with cloth.

A great side effect of using cloth diapers is that most children potty train earlier and faster!
