Vogen slams PEM (too)

Baseball is a game of anticipation. The delay between every pitch only stokes the hopeful fire. Things particularly heat up when the count turns 3-2, when there are two out in the top of the ninth, or when there are runners in scoring position. Optimism just plain burns when a visiting team is trailing 5-2 in the top of the seventh, the bases are loaded, and there are two outs, or the situation the Chatfield Gophers found themselves in versus PEM. With Nate Skare aboard via a walk, and Mitch Narveson/Jake Neis on via singles, senior catcher Nate Vogen stepped to the plate. He must not like anticipation much. On PEM pitcher Cole Olstad's first offering, Vogen swung hard and sent the ball flying over the left field fence! He seized the moment of all baseball moments and slammed a heroic go-ahead granny. Such clutchness could've all been for naught. Chatfield still had to get the Bulldogs out in the bottom of the seventh. When PEM's first two runners reached, their expectations were stoked. But Gopher senior Erik Hilgren then came to the mound in relief, got three straight ground ball outs, squelching PEM's comeback, securing a save, a Gopher win, one the team likely isn't soon to forget. Vogen's blast was one of two homers on the day, as PEM's Daren Wingert also went yard. The win improves Chatfield's record to 2-2.
