December 2004
Meeting called to order. Those in attendance were: Myrna Luehmann, Rick Lamon, Greg Ehresmann, Jim Busta, Phil Minkkinen, R-P Elementary Principal, Minette Stalheim Johnson and Mary Rae. The proposed agenda was reviewed and accepted. Moved by M. Luehmann with second from J. Busta. Minutes of the November 2004 meeting were reviewed and approved. Moved by J. Busta with a second from M. Luehmann. The bill payments were reviewed and accepted. R. Lamon moved to accept with G. Ehresmann second.
No major changes in the budget. Final figures will soon be available regarding carryover. The audit is in its final stages and should be ready for report out in January.
No applications have been submitted for the speech and language long term substitution due to a maternity leave. RRED has advertised at colleges with speech programs in Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin and North Dakota. An ad has been placed in the Rochester paper and in the local paper suggesting that learning disabilities certification will be considered for the position.
M. Luehmann led a discussion on the Early Risers Program. She will present the conclusions of the group to the FCFSC for consideration of support for the next three years. This is a program with a comprehensive approach of early intervention with children in the first and second grades. The University of Minnesota received a grant from the Federal government and is looking for rural sites to pilot the program.
A new version of IDEA was authorized on November 19, 2004. The new version demands accountability in step with No Child Left Behind.
Training opportunities have been announced for Kansas Learning Strategies in February and March and completion of the ASD spectrum in-service in January.
Meeting adjourned. The next meeting is at 9 am on January 10, 2005.
