Training opportunities were discussed. The first session of Kansas Learning Strategies was completed on February 10th. Approximately 12 staff attended with a team of regular and special education teachers from Chatfield participating. The next session, Letter Mnemonics is scheduled for March 18th. Trainers for presentation on the reauthorized IDEA are being sought for the member districts. Although the new law will take time to be implemented due to rule making, there are certain components that have already taken effect (No Child Left Behind requirements) and others will be in place after July 1, 2005. An EBD consultant will talk with administrators, EBD teachers and the Leadership Team on April 12.
Dan Collett reported on the Day Treatment program. He is attempting to evaluate the program’s effectiveness by looking at such factors as attendance, transition, academic progress and behavioral changes. He is also reviewing IEP’s to evaluate the needs for the summer. The group requested information on the various models of day treatment programs for the next meeting.
Personnel and staffing needs were reviewed. It is unclear at this time as to the exact number of students that will be in some of the low incident programs. This information will be reviewed next month. Next month’s meeting is scheduled for March 14, at 9 am.
Future meeting dates: 4/11/05, 5/9/05, 6/13/05
