Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life." John 14:6
During World War II, the English government knew that Hitler was planning to invade Britain. They encouraged people to prepare for the invasion in several ways: they established a defense force of elderly men, young boys, and women; they posted watchers; they built huge bonfires on high points, ready to be lit instantly if invaders landed; they instructed farmers to litter their open fields with farm implements to discourage glider landings. And they did one more thing---the government passed a law requiring that all road signs and signs naming highways, towns, and villages be taken down. Even though the Germans had maps, they knew it would confuse them and slow their advance if they had no reference points, no idea of where they were. Without guiding signs, they would wander aimlessly.
Some people lead their lives this same way; they don't follow any guidelines or directions to keep them on a safe and direct path through life. This need not be a problem for anyone. We have the guidelines we need in the Bible, particularly in the life of Jesus. He showed us by the way he lived and the things he taught how we can live successfully and joyfully. Our relationships with our Creator God, and with all of our fellow human beings can be loving, kind, and productive if we follow the road of life signs given us by our Lord. Our pathway to eternal life is lighted by Jesus' life, death, and rising.
