Fillmore Central triple "A" award winners

Tricia Harstad and Nathan Hanson have been selected to represent Fillmore Central High School in the Triple "A" (Academics, Arts, and Athletics) Award program sponsored by the Minnesota State High School League.

Established in 1988, the Triple "A" Award goes to high school seniors who have a "B" or better grade point average and who participate in League-sponsored athletic and fine arts activities.

Tricia is the daughter of Jim and Polly Harstad. She is a member of Fillmore Central's National Honor Society and Scholar Club. Tricia's athletic activities include volleyball, basketball and golf. She has been captain of all of these squads. She has also been an academic all-conference selection in all 3 sports and band and choir.

Tricia's fine arts activities include band, where she has participated in both large and small group contests, receiving superior ratings, and choir, including tapestry and large and small group contests, receiving superior ratings.

Tricia has also been active in flag corps for marching band, radio show, TNT, SADD and student council. Tricia was one of the captains of the volleyball team which raised over $11,000 this year in the fight against breast cancer.

Outside of school Tricia is involved in her church youth group (president), making blankets for the Ronald McDonald House and has traveled to New Orleans to help Hurricane Katrina victims.

Nathan is the son of Allen and Sandy Hanson. He is also a member of the National Honor Society. His athletic activities include football, basketball and golf. He is a captain of the golf team and has been academic all-conference in sports and music.

Nathan's fine arts activities include band, where he has participated in solos and ensembles and received superior ratings as well as a best-in-site award and choir where he participated in an ensemble. He has also been a member and president of the one-act plays and performed in musicals and all-school plays. Nathan often has had the lead role in those plays and musicals. Nathan has also been a member of the speech team and works on the radio show.

Nathan was also elected president of the senior class this year. He has used his musical talent by playing the saxophone and singing in churches, nursing homes and retirement homes.

Tricia and Nathan will now be eligible for sub-section, section and state awards.
