By now, unless you are without a TV, you have seen the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome roof collapse. Every time I watch the Teflon colored panels shred and tear and the force of the snow as it hits the turf, I realize how lucky fans are the game was not in progress.
The Minnesota Vikings have been after funding for a new stadium for some years now. And after this collapse, I suspect that argument is only going to get louder. National media types have been reporting for years if the Vikings don't get a new stadium, they will be heading to California. Unfortunately, that may actually come to a head. But, fear not all you football fans. Should the Vikings pack up and leave, it will take only a matter of weeks for the heads of state to figure out what Minnesota's economy is losing by not having a team. Quickly the funds will come available to build a new state-of-the-art stadium and work will quickly commence.
What good is a stadium with no team you may ask? Well, being from Jacksonville, Fl, and following the Jaguars from their inception to now, I can tell you they are struggling to sell tickets, and many national pundits have been clamoring for them to move. Starting today, I think it would be good for everyone in Minnesota to become Jaguars fans. Buy tickets, jerseys, banners, whatever you can find. Show some spirit and when it comes time for a movement, the fan base will already be set. They will find Minnesota so irresistible the team will have no choice but to move here.
As a firm believer that the world would be a better place if everyone were a Jags fan, the Jags playing here would make Minnesota a much happier place. As a happier place, we will draw more interesting people and their money to our wonderful community. The economy will grow exponentially. And we will all be richer for it.
I know, I know, you want to keep the Viking horn. I like it too, but it just does not fit in with the Jaguars logo. We will have to negotiate. The Jaguars team colors are teal and gold. We can drop the teal and add the purple, because, well, you know, "real men wear purple."
Another reason it would be a good fit is coaching. With all the coaching fiascos the Vikings have had the last decade or so, wouldn't it be refreshing to have a successful coach? And, as I have heard from some local football fans, Jack Del Rio was well liked in Minnesota when he was a coach here. As the Jaguars current head coach he will come here with the team. Win!
Obviously, this was all a joke. I don't want the Vikings to move anymore than I want the Jaguars to move. This NFL offseason is going to be interesting. And we all hope this stadium issue gets worked out very soon.
