Jaremy Kent Volkman, a 37-year old white male from Harmony, Minnesota, appeared before Judge Robert R. Benson in District Court Monday, May 2, 2011, facing four counts of assault and one count of terroristic threats. If convicted on all five counts, Volkman could face a maximum penalty of 17 years in prison, 180 days in jail, and fines totaling up to $36,000. On April 14, 2011, Fillmore County Sheriff's Deputy Lt. Tony Webber responded to a call from a resident in Fillmore County who reported an assault. Upon arrival, Webber observed the caller had blood on his face, a black and blue lump below his right eye and cuts to the top of his head. The victim alleged that Mr. Volkman had come to his house requesting gasoline for his vehicle, and the assault took place when they went to get the gasoline. During the assault the defendant allegedly made threats to the life of the victim as well. When questioned about this accusation, the defendant told Webber he had not been anywhere near this person and that he was driving a dump truck to LeRoy at the time of the alleged attack. Judge Benson set unconditional bail, which was posted, at $12,000. Volkman's next court appearance has been set for May 16, 2011.
