Voter record updates will be completed by primary election

"We are committed to getting done by the primary election," Shirl Boelter, Fillmore County Election Administrator, told the Fillmore County Board at their July 25 meeting. She was referring to the process of updating county polling records with new rural address changes for the estimated 13,000 voters in Fillmore County.
"We are doing it by school district," Boelter said. "We are almost completed with Kingsland and will be doing Rushford-Peterson next."
Boelter also informed the county board that training in the use of election equipment is taking place with all 20 precincts scheduled to be done before the primary.
"We want election judges to be comfortable with how everything works," Boelter said, noting that a training was conducted at Amherst Township recently.
Boelter said that having the HAVA election equipment at the fair was beneficial as people could try out the equipment in advance of the fall elections.
Dental Program
The board approved allowing a dental hygienist to attend county sponsored Women, Infant and Children (WIC) clinics to provide basic preventative dental care to low-income children. Kris Billman will not be a county employee and will carry her own liability insurance.
Septic Classes
The board approved a contract with the University of Minnesota Extension for an educator to provide septic system classes. Class sizes are 20 to 30, and is a requirement for those applying for the $300 septic grants. The program is part of the Septic System Pilot Inventory Program.
Zoning
The board approved a conditional use permit for Ron Gehling to operate a rock quarry in Carrolton Township. Much of the discussion focused on the notification process to neighbors within a one mile radius of the site before any blasting can take place.
A conditional use permit was also approved for Ulland Brothers to operate a sand pit in Beaver Township.
