Fillmore County District Court: Beck enters not guilty pleas

PRESTON - Defense Attorney Fred Suhler, Jr. entered not guilty pleas in Fillmore County District Court on Monday, July 24, 2006 on behalf of his client Benjamin Beck. Beck, 32, who has been charged with 10 felony counts, including kidnapping, burglary and assault with a dangerous weapon, appeared in court on a Rule 8 hearing.
It is alleged that Beck and his companion Truman Gross, broke into the DeWayne and Norm Vogt residence in Preston at gunpoint on July 9, bound the couple and stole a vehicle. Beck and Gross, who are fugitives from a minimum security prison in Oklahoma, were later apprehended in Monroe County, Wisconsin.
Beck waived his right to an omnibus hearing and asked for a jury trial. He is presently being held in the Olmsted County Jail. Truman Gross is being held in the Monroe County Wisconsin where he faces charges.
Felony Sentencing
• Jessica Marie Holly, 28, of Spring Grove, was placed on probation for five years after pleading guilty to one felony count of receiving stolen property. All other charges were dismissed.
According to court records, on October 24, 2005, Holly and three others stole a motor vehicle, a 4-wheeler and tools from Engen Construction in rural Mabel.
Judge Robert Benson ordered that Holly must serve 9 days in jail, pay a $500 fine and must share any restitution of $2000 with her accomplices.
• Christopher Dean Ward, 25, of Spring Valley, was placed on probation for five years after pleading guilty to one count of criminal damage to property.
According to the criminal complaint, on September 11, 2005, Ward was intoxicated and became angry at his girl friend and damaged a motor vehicle and cell phone belonging to the woman.
Judge Benson ordered that Ward must serve 60 days in jail, pay a fine of $1000 and make restitution of $1329.40.
