Felony Charges
• Michael Patrick Howlett, 47, of Chatfield, was charged in Fillmore County District Court on Monday, July 31, 2006, with two felony counts of possession of cocaine and possession of a sawed-off shotgun.
According to court records, on February 10, 2006 a search warrant of the Howlett residence in Chatfield was carried out by Chatfield Police, Fillmore County Sheriff's Deputies and members of the Southeast Minnesota Narcotics and Gang Task Force. The search found the cocaine and the illegal weapon.
Judge Robert Benson released Howlett on his own recognizance. His next court appearance is scheduled for August 14, 2006.
• Nicholas Frank Mahr, 23, of Spring Grove was charged in District Court on Monday with making terroristic threats, a felony. He was also charged with disorderly conduct, assault and trespassing, all gross misdemeanors.
According to the criminal complaint, Mahr was in the Coyote Club in Chatfield on July 29, 2006, when Mahr and the group he was with were asked to leave the club. A Chatfield Police officer escorted Mahr out of the club at which time the defendant threatened to kill the police officer.
Mahr was released after posting $1000 bail. Judge Benson set Mahr's next court appearance for August 14, 2006.
• Kim Arthur Wentworth, 40, of Preston, was charged in District Court on Monday with making terroristic threats, a felony. He was also charged with disorderly conduct, a felony.
According to court papers, on July 30, 2006, Wentworth was in an argument with his ex-wife and another man, when the defendant threatened to kill the man. The event was witnessed by a Preston Police Officer who made the arrest.
Wentworth was released after posting $1000 bail. Judge Benson set Wentworth's next court appearance for August 14, 2006.
Felony Sentencing
• Linda Kay Zollman, 51, of Preston, was found guilty by a jury on May 26, 2006, of financial exploitation of a vulnerable adult, a felony.
The court record shows that between August 2003 and December 2003, Zollman misused funds while she was power-of-attorney for an elderly man, including failing to pay costs of care at Spring Valley Nursing Home.
Judge Robert Benson placed Zollman on 10 years probation, ordered her to perform 200 hours of community service and pay $2,500 in restitution. She was also fined $50 and required to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.
