The county's biggest stars at the Section 1A track meet were four young ladies from Chatfield. Erin Kammer (Jr), Ashley Baker (Fr), Nichole Clemens (Sr), and Maddy Kammer (8th), with their 4x100 and 4x200 titles, have earned trips to state. It wasn't entirely a piece of cake. The foursome won their preliminary 4x100 heat, but finished third in their preliminary 4x200 heat. Their time was 8th best, or just enough to get them to the finals. There they brought out their best running shoes. In the 4x100, they finished a second ahead of runner-up Lake City. In the 4x200, they improved their prelim time by almost six seconds, and trumped La Crescent. Baker and Maddy Kammer added 5th place finishes at their individual 100 and 200-meter events respectively. Also headed to state for the Gophers is Kyndra Neis. Her 2nd place Shot Put performance moves her on. She also finished 4th in the Discus. On the boy's side of things, LFC's Tanner Ristau (2nd place, 200 meters) and R-P-H's Dalton Mensink (3rd place, 300-hurdles, with qualifying time) lived to run again (at state). Ristau also finished 6th in the 100 meters. Mensink finished 6th in the Long Jump and 7th in 200 meters. A number of other county athletes also performed admirably. Field eventer Jaci Adcock (R-P-H) took 3rd (Shot Put) and 6th (Discus). The Chatfield boy's relay teams showed well, placing 3rd at both the 4x400 and 4x800, and 6th at the 4x200. The FCL 4x100 squad (4th), Kayla Woltz-Chatfield (3,200-4th), Chris Stackhouse-RPH (High Jump, 5th), Nick Haffner-Chatfield (110 hurdles-7th), Marissa Bornholdt-Kingsland (100-8th), Karen Gomez-Chatfield (1,600-8th), and Shane Austin-FCL (Discus-8th) all finished in the top eight. The state meet is scheduled for June 10 and 11th at Hamline University in St. Paul.
