Ronald Melvin Olson, 65, of Lanesboro, Minn., passed away peacefully in his home on Tuesday, April 11, 2017.
He was born January 30, 1952 to Henry and Marjorie (Ivey) Olson in Lanesboro, Minn. Ron lived in Lanesboro and attended school there. He graduated from Lanesboro High School in 1970. He later married the love of his life, Christine Boyum on June 9, 1973 and they later had two children, Naomi and Michael.
Ron was an outdoor enthusiast. He would take his children out fishing and hunting. He would give anything to be on the water fishing. His love for the sport bled into the lives of his children and grandchildren. Ron also enjoyed playing his guitar with his “off the cuff” melodies which brought laughter to all he was surrounded with. His most recent enjoyment was watching the squirrels out of his living room window while they attempted to get the corn from the feeders. It was like watching a circus act but with squirrels and many laughs were had by himself and Chris.
Ron is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Christine; one daughter, Naomi (Eric) Peterson of Cashton, Wis.; one son, Michael (Toni) Olson of Fountain, Minn.; two grandchildren, Allyson and Cortnee Peterson; two sisters, Patricia (Curt) Olstad of Rochester, Minn., and Sherry (Wayne) Kingsbury of Lanesboro, Minn.; two brothers-in-law, Terry (Renae) Boyum of Lanesboro, Minn., and Scott (Jody) Boyum of Albert Lea, Minn.; two sisters-in-law, Barbara (Tom) Iverson of Austin, Minn., and Judy (Gary) Kingsbury of Lanesboro, Minn.; many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Marjorie and Henry Olson; mother and father-in-law, Arlene and Ferdy Boyum; and a special friend, Randy Harmon.
The family would like to thank St. Croix Hospice staff, family, friends and neighbors for all of their help over the past year.
Ron was extremely blessed and will be truly missed by his family and friends.
