Orvey F. Peterson, 90, of Fountain, Minn., died on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at Seasons Hospice House in Rochester, Minn.

Orvey Franklin Peterson was born in Lanesboro, Minn., on July 18, 1932, to Edmund and Myrtle (Losey) Pederson. He graduated from Lanesboro High School. On October 18, 1952, Orvey married his high school sweetheart, Darlene Fay Bakke, at Highland Lutheran Church. After serving in the Army during the Korean War, he farmed for 25+ years and sold radio ads for KFIL and KQYB for 34 years.

Orvey was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 50 years, the Lanesboro American Legion and the Union Prairie Church. Orvey played the guitar in the Pea Pickers band for 42 years. He and Darlene spent many years traveling to Texas, Arizona and Nevada in their motorhome to escape the harsh midwest winters. In his spare time, Orvey enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also loved spending time with his family and friends.

Orvey is survived by his wife of 70 years, Darlene Peterson, daughters Rhonda Wangen (special friend Steven Thompson) of Fountain, Minn., and LaDeane Peterson of Red Wing, Minn.; nine grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren, sister Nancy Mickelson (Donald) of Lanesboro, sister-in-law Lois Peterson and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Deborah Simonson, grandsons Matt Olson and Jesse Peterson, brother Robert Dale and four sons-in-law.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like you to plant a tree in memory of Orvey.

A graveside service will be held at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Preston, Minn., at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 24, 2023. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Lanesboro American Legion 103 Elmwood St E Lanesboro, Minn., 55949 immediately following the graveside service.
