The Spring Grove girls scored the last dozen points of the game to win by 15 against West Lutheran, 58-43, on Dec. 28, the second day of holiday double headers at Rushford-Peterson. West Lutheran is located in Plymouth, just west of the Twin Cities and plays in Class A, Section 4.

Lion freshman Kylie Hammel had an outstanding stat line with 18 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 blocked shots and a career-high 6 steals. Freshman Siri Konkel directed the attack with 9 assists while scoring 13 points herself – both career-high totals. Senior Addyson McHugh added 10 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 assists.
After an early 11-point run, the Lions (3-5) led most of the way but mostly by single-digit margins. The Warriors (1-6) hit only three 3-point baskets (3 for 8), but those treys came in succession to help trim the SG 12-point lead down to three. However, the Warriors would then not score during the final five and half minutes (3 turnovers, 0-6 field goals, 0-1 free throws). Meanwhile, the Lions scored on six of seven possessions to turn a close contest into the final 15-point verdict. During that stretch run, Konkel contributed to all six scoring plays with three baskets and three assists.
Spring Grove had 20 turnovers but atoned with a season-high 17 steals, which contributed to 25 Warrior turnovers. The Lions also logged season-highs with 16 assists and six 3-point field goals (6 for 21). Spring Grove out-rebounded West Lutheran, 34 to 25.
The Lion B-Team (3-4) also whipped the Warriors, 44-23.
