It was a pretty big three-sport week for Kingsland athletes and teams. Across three days, someone from cross country, volleyball, and then football, stood out, giving the silver and black a notably good week. On the running paths Tuesday, sophomore Garrison Hubka continued his excellent break-out campaign. He won his third race of the season (17:12), beating Panther Tanner Horton (17:58) at the two-team Pine Island Invite. In Hubka’s other two races, he took second. Cole Kruegel (19:18) finished sixth for the Knights. PI (29) won the boys team competition over Kingsland (40). PI’s Brooklyn Horton (22:05) won the girls competition with Knight Susie Mettler (22:50) taking second. Kingsland’s girls were incomplete with just four runners. On the volleyball court two days later, Kingsland volleyball took out Randolph 3-1 (25-16, 25-11, 17-25, 25-18). Ellie Buchholtz powered down 29 kills, plus had 18 digs and 6 aces to lead the way. Alyssa Link (44 assists, 11 digs), Shelby Beck (14 kills), and Audrey Webster (23 digs) were key help. A night later, Kingsland football did what it hasn’t done since 2011. They opened the season with a win. The Knights led 22-8 at halftime and 30-14 after three on the way to a 44-14 victory over Lyle/Pacelli. James Howard ran 21 times for 188 yards and 4 TDs to lead team double-K. Kaden Rath (7-12, 150 yards, TD passing), Devin Carr (3-142, TD receiving), Beau Wiersma (4-yard TD run) also authored TDs. Kingsland put up over 450 yards of offense to claim Coach Matt Kolling his first varsity win.
