The Wykoff Fall Fest Committee in collaboration with the Wykoff Historical Society, the Dreamery Rural Arts Initiative, and Spring Valley photographer Anthony Calabrese, have received a grant through the Southeastern Minnesota Arts council for a public art project that will take place during the month of September, 2013, as part of the town’s Fall Fest celebration. The project, entitled Facing Wykoff, will be a display of photographs of town residents that will fill the downtown storefronts. Current residents of Wykoff (those that live within the town’s city limits) are invited to come to 106 Gold Street (Eickoff community building) on Saturday, June 29 from 10am to 4pm or Sunday, June 30 from noon to 5pm to have their pictures taken. Any Wykoff resident is welcome and encouraged to participate; there is no cost involved.

Photographer Anthony Calabrese graduated from St. Mary’s College in Winona, Minn. in 1974 with a degree in Studio Arts and sociology. He went on to have a career in photography, being published in Modern Photography, Photo Design, and a variety of newspapers and journals, as well as participating in Minnesota photographic exhibitions. For a period, he photographed professional wrestlers, including a one Jesse Ventura. But, his largest solo project involved 2,300 photographs documenting facilities of the Federal Bureau of Prisons for the Bureau of Prisons archives in Washington DC. He recently retired from a 25 year career with the Federal Bureau of Prisons, and has returned to his alma mater (now St. Mary’s University) as a teacher of photography.

Facing Wykoff will comprise approximately 50 photographs of a spectrum of Wykoff residents. The display will hang during the month of September in the Gold Street storefronts: it will be free to view and open to the public, and will coincide with Fall Fest. Mr. Calabrese will photograph all Wykoff individuals that wish to participate. While his final selection of photos for display will depend on the results of the sessions and his aesthetic discretion, all photos taken will be projected as a slide show during the opening reception for the exhibit on Sept. 1 and be made available to participants.

Those Wykoff residents that would like to be part of the exhibit are invited to come to 102 Gold Street on the above-mentioned days. The photographer will work with people as quickly as time allows. People are asked to come in comfortable clothing and .....
