Wendell John George Anstett, 79, of Rochester, died Monday September 24, 2012, at his home in Rochester.
Wendell was born April 27, 1933, in Preston, the son of John and Louise Anstett. Raised in Preston, he was a graduate of Preston High School with the Class of 1951. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1954, and then returned to Southeastern Minnesota. He married Sherry Strahl on January 25, 1957, in Preston. From 1954 to 1988, Mr. Anstett worked for the Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. in Rochester. After 1988, he had a number of jobs, including a telephone business he owned and operated with other Northwestern Bell employees he had worked with. Currently, he was working for Rochester Ford. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and going to coffee with his buddies.
He was a longtime member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, a member of American Legion Post 166 and VFW Post 6893, both in Preston, and the Preston Sportsmans’ Club.
He is survived by his daughters, Debra Anstett of Rochester, and Jeannine Anstett of Saint James; a son Dale (Patricia) Anstett of Harris; a granddaughter, Carly Jean Anstett of Harris; and a sister, Maude “Mitzi” (Richard Jr.) Holets of Chatfield. Also surviving is a dear family friend, Mary Colbenson of Saint James.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sherry Anstett in 2009; a son, Lee Anstett; parents, John and Louise Anstett; and two sisters, Ruth Ewaldt and Mae Peterson.
Funeral services for Wendell Anstett were held Saturday September 29, 2012, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Rochester. The Reverend Karna Hagen officiated. Burial followed at Crown Hill Cemetery in Preston, Minnesota.
