Luther senior Pecinovsky to present clarinet recital Oct. 12

DECORAH, IA (10/03/2013)(readMedia)-- Sara Pecinovsky, a Luther College senior from Mabel, Minn., will perform a clarinet recital at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, in the Noble Recital Hall of the Jenson-Noble Music Hall on the Luther campus.

Pecinovsky, the daughter of Chris and Lori Pecinovsky of Mabel, is majoring in music with a K-12 instrumental and voice music education minor at Luther.

Pecinovsky will perform works by Robert Schumann, Robert Muczynski and Ludwig van Beethoven.

There will be a special performance of Beethoven's Octet in E-flat major, Op. 103 performed by Water Street Music Series chamber group, including Pecinovsky, Heather Armstrong, associate professor of music; Stephanie Diebel, Luther junior; James Griesheimer, associate professor of music; Kate Haller, assistant coordinator for music organizations and marketing; Hannah Josephson, Luther junior; Katie Seidel, admissions visit coordinator; and Rebecca Boehm Shaffer, adjunct faculty in music.

A reception will follow the performance. Both the recital and reception are open to the public with no charge for admission.

Pecinovsky is a student of Michael Chesher, Luther associate professor of music. She will be accompanied by Evan Mitchell, Luther senior. She is also involved in Luther's Concert Band and Collegiate Chorale.

Luther is home to one of the largest collegiate music programs in the nation with six choirs, three orchestras, three bands, two jazz bands and nearly 1,000 student musicians.

Luther students participate in large ensembles, faculty-coached chamber groups, private lessons and master classes. More than 350 music majors study music theory, ear training, history, education, composition, church music and performance.
