Lanesboro Local to celebrate completion of new marketplace Saturday, October 5

LANESBORO, Minn. – A new gallery level has just been completed at the Lanesboro Local Marketplace, now filled with an exciting collection of local arts, crafts and books. Known as one of the most distinctive shops in the region featuring locally made foods and artisan goods, the historic Marketplace building at the corner of Parkway Avenue and Coffee Street now has expanded displays of the many diverse products for sale by area residents.

“We are inviting everyone to come to a celebration of Lanesboro Local’s growth on Saturday, October 5, 2013, from 1 to 4 p.m.,” said Bonnie Haugen, Chair of the non-profit organization. “The Marketplace at 201 Parkway Avenue North will be buzzing with free tastings of regional cheeses and Minnesota beverages, music by local musicians, and the opportunity to explore our unique blend of talented artisan creations.”

In June 2013, the Lanesboro Local Marketplace moved a block south of its former location to a historic building recently renovated by Phil and Heidi Dybing, building owners and former organization board members. After retaining the tin ceilings and other quaint touches on the first level, the couple has now completed renovation of the long-boarded up second level, which enables tenant Lanesboro Local to feature a bright, spacious gallery for the introduction of new local artisans.

The expansion is also enabling the Marketplace to increase availability and selection of locally produced edibles. “Shoppers are going to be very impressed with how much excellent local food is being added, including grains and flours, spices and seasonings, organic and grass-fed meats, cheeses and other dairy products, breads and baked goods, and much, much more,” said Haugen, a dairy farmer herself from Canton, m.p..

Lanesboro Local is a non-profit organization dedicated since 2009 to supporting the exchange of local food and artisan goods through its retail Marketplace and networking website (www.lanesborolocal.org), to strengthen the local economy. Initiatives include education, mentoring, linking producers and consumers through effective networking, product sourcing and retail marketing. The Marketplace is open Monday-Thursday 10-5, Friday and Saturday 10-6, Sunday 11-4.
