Lanesboro hires new City Administrator

Fri, May 10th, 2013
Posted in Lanesboro Government

The Lanesboro City Council approved offering the job of City Administrator/Clerk/Treasurer to David Todd at their regular meeting on May 6. Todd had been interviewed along with three other candidates last month.

After some discussion, it was agreed to offer the position as long as the full background check came back with no problems. The salary was set at $46,000 with full benefits.

Interim Administrator Theresa Coleman said Todd had very good references and recommendations, as well as a Master’s Degree. He will have a review after 60 days, 180 days, and 365 days of working.

Public Utilities

Previously, the council had passed a resolution to speak with Representative Greg Davids and Senator Jeremy Miller and ask them to include the dam repair project in the state bonding bill for $1.1 million. Councilor O’Connor said he followed up with this and found there might not be a state bonding bill this year. O’Connor also mentioned that the cold weather rule for utilities was extended to May 10 due to the weather this spring.

Animals and Fowl ordinance

Coleman presented the council with a possible ordinance that would create a Board of Health and a Health Officer for the city of Lanesboro. The Health Officer, required to be a physician, would be responsible for upholding and creating ordinances regarding public health issues. This person would also conduct inspections.

Coleman explained this ties in with another issue, and that is the possibility of having an Animals and Fowl ordinance so people could have chickens on their property. Currently two Lanesboro residents have made this request. A Health Officer would be used to inspect the properties and issue permits.

The council discussed looking at other communities that have chicken ordinances and get some more information. No action was taken.

Community Center Keys

Coleman stated there are some keys to the community center missing. Normally when someone rents out the community center, they pay a key deposit. However, there are non-profit organizations that rent it free of charge, and sometimes keys do not get returned. Coleman checked with a locksmith and found it would be $500 to re-key the community center. The council approved it, with the change that everyone will pay a key deposit when renting. Whoever takes the keys will also be signing them out so it is kno .....
