Lanesboro School Board decides against referendum

At the June meeting the Lanesboro School Board discussed an operating referendum of $300 per student. Superintendent Jeff Boggs had informed the board that the state was offering a referendum match of $212 per student. If the district went ahead with it, they would be getting approximately $45,000 from the state next year.

At the regular meeting on July 18, Boggs informed the board that he had learned more information about the state’s match, and discovered that it only applied to districts with more than 2,000 students.

“Some schools need it and would pass it anyway,” said Boggs. “I recommend we pass on it.”

The cost of lunch, milk, and breakfast for students and adults was increased by 10 cents in order to meet the minimum set by the state for next year. Boggs recommended they leave the price of juice and milk the same as it was last year. He added the state wants to increase the lunch prices in order to help pay for the students that get free or reduced lunches.

The bid for bread from Earth Grains was approved. Also approved was the bid for milk from Ziebell’s.

The hire of Riley Swier was approved for secondary Health and Phy. Ed. Chad Rich was hired for the head cook position.
