Commonweal continues Fillmore/Houston County Free Nights

Fri, Apr 11th, 2014
Posted in Lanesboro Arts & Culture

LANESBORO, Minn. — The Commonweal Theatre Company announces performance dates for its 2014 Free County Night Program. Theatre lovers living and/or working in Fillmore or Houston Counties are invited to attend Ibsen’s epic drama Brand on Thursday, April 10th; the classic American comedy Arsenic and Old Lace on Thursday, May 15th; the incredible journey of Around The World in 80 Days on Thursday, June 26th; the Tony Award-winning romantic comedy Arcadia on Thursday, September 18th; and the madcap romp Every Christmas Story Ever Told (and then some) on Thursday, November 20.

This season the Commonweal is renewing its commitment to local charities through a “pay it forward” approach. As a non-profit, the Commonweal relies on generous donations from audiences and corporations to sustain programming; in turn, the Commonweal extends that generosity to the community five nights a year with free tickets. The intention is to remove any cost barrier for Commonweal’s closest neighbors to attend their local professional theatre. The 2014 Season will again take the Pay it Forward concept a step further and encourage patrons to contribute items to a social or service organization chosen specifically based on a theme within each play. The opportunity to donate will be available for the entire run of each production, but primarily focuses on those patrons who attend the complimentary performances. Previous Pay-It-Forward events have been very successful. In 2013, the Commonweal collected more than 300 books on behalf of The Southeastern Libraries Cooperating, and nearly 100 new art supplies during The Last Night of Ballyhoo, donated to the Mayo Eugenio Litta Children’s Hospital.

For the Commonweal’s first production of the season, Brand, the partner charity is The March of Dimes. Donations of new packages of preemie-sized diapers, and/or knit hats and blankets will be welcomed at the theatre from April 10 through June 13. All donations will then be donated to the Neo-Natal Units of Rochester hospitals.

All Pay it Forward performances begin at 7:30 p.m. and, while admission is free of charge to residents and employees of Fillmore and Houston counties, seating is limited, and reservations are strongly recommended at least two weeks in advance. There is a limit of four free tickets per household. Free County/Pay it Forward Nights at the Commonweal Theatre are made possible with support from the Houston Dental Clinic, Thrive .....
