"I Left My Heart in Rhubarb Country" Concert

Lanesboro, Minn. - Back by popular demand, “I Left My Heart in Rhubarb Country” will showcase the Rhubarb Sisters at the St. Mane Theatre on Saturday, June 1, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. The concert will feature familiar tunes set to creative lyrics, created by the Rhubarb Sisters themselves: Peggy Hanson, Beth Hennessy, Julie Kiehne and Robin Scheu. The Sisters will move through the seasons in song, with “Try to Remember” and two versions of “I Left My Heart in . . .” (San Francisco / Mississippi), amongst other favorites. They will be joined onstage by the Bethlehem Boyz, Barbara Benson Keith & Rita Dalzell, and the CBB Jazz Combo & Friends. Sadly, this will be Sister Robin Scheu’s last performance, as she is getting married the following weekend and moving to Madison, WI. She will bid audiences farewell with a solo version of Greg Brown’s “Canned Goods”. Concert tickets are $15 / $12 LAC member, available in advance at Lanesboro Arts Center, 507-467-2446, or at the St. Mane Theatre the night of performance. The St. Mane Theatre, at 206 Parkway Ave N., is handicapped accessible.



The “I Left My Heart in Rhubarb Country” concert will be the capstone of a whole day of rhubarb enjoyment: Lanesboro’s annual Rhubarb Festival will be held in Sylvan Park 10 a.m. – 3 p.m., with entertainment and activities like the Rhubarb Run, Lanesboro Arts Center’s Rhub-ART printmaking booth, music and entertainment, the Rhubarb Games, the Cock-A-Doodle-Doo petting zoo, and Rhubarb Tasting. The Rhubarb Sisters are from Lanesboro, the Rhubarb Capital of Minnesota. Since 2006, they have enjoyed entertaining audiences throughout southeast Minnesota and spreading their rhubarb message of hope and good cheer. They have found that rhubarb can make its way into almost any familiar song! As Peggy Hanson says, “It’s like finding happiness in your own backyard.” The Rhubarb Sisters skyrocketed to fame and stardom when Garrison Keillor asked them to join him on the Prairie Home Companion radio show when it came to Lanesboro’s Rhubarb Festival in 2007.
