Phyllis Maureen Grooters

Phyllis Maureen Grooters, 80, of Harmony, began her eternal life with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday November, 19th. She passed away at the Harmony Nursing Home with family by her side.

Phyllis was born September 1st, 1933 in Winneshiek County, Iowa to Oliver and Edith (Goldsworthy) Pederson. The family moved to the Niagara Cave Farm in the early 30’s, and she attended Kennedy School through 8th grade. In 1951 she graduated from Harmony High School. In 1952 she was united in marriage to Wally Grooters of Greenleafton. They farmed in the Greenleafton area for several years. She was a member of the Greenleafton Reformed Church and participated in women’s circles and other activities in the church. After Wally’s death in 1994 she remained on the farm until 2001, when she moved to Harmony. She enjoyed helping out at the visitor center, visiting with friends, doing crossword puzzles, going for long country rides, and spoiling her “grands” and her “greats”!!

She was preceded in death by her son Greg in 1991, her husband Wally in 1994, brother Manford, and sister Dorothy.

She is survived by her two daughters, Lyn (Hal Dykens) Grooters of Altoona, IA, and Barb (Steve) Keist of Austin, MN; four grandchildren, Nathan (Jennie) Dykens of Grand Rapids, MI, Allison Dykens of Santa Maria, CA, Justine (John) Schneider of Cadott, WI, and Erin (Cruz Hernandez Bravo) Hernandez of Urbandale, IA; five great-grandchildren, Jayden Hernandez, Layla Hernandez, Isabella Hernandez, Haddie Hernandez, and Harper Dykens.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Greenleafton Reformed Church in Harmony, MN. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, November 22 at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Harmony, MN as well as one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Greenleafton Cemetery.
