Richard C. (Dick) Koliha, age 93, passed away peacefully Sunday evening, April 19, 2015, at the Gundersen Harmony Healthcare Center.

Richard Clarence Koliha was born to John and Stella (Jarosh) Koliha on August 3, 1921, on a farm in rural Howard County Iowa. At the age of 1½ he and his family moved to his present farm just north of the Minnesota/Iowa State Line. He helped on the farm, attended school at the rural York Country School and graduated from Lime Springs High School in 1942. In his younger years he loved to play baseball and attend dances. Richard married Betty Ann House on September 29, 1957 in the Cresco United Methodist Church. He took over the family farm when his parents moved to Harmony in 1957. Richard and Betty Ann farmed together until her death on November 29, 1987. He lived and farmed his farm for 85 plus years until entering Harmony Healthcare in 2008.

Besides his lifelong love of farming his land, he enjoyed trapping, trout fishing, deer hunting, playing cards, attending auctions and collecting “precious treasures”. When he was no longer hunting, he would stop to visit with other hunters, providing a late morning breakfast of hard boiled eggs with salt and pepper, hot chocolate and coffee.

He was a member of the Lime Springs United Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge. He served on the York Township board of supervisors, the church administrative counsel, the Pleasant Hill Cemetery board, and served on the Cresco US Bank, Lime Springs branch, board of directors.

Richard enjoyed visiting his relatives, friends, and neighbors and would bring a dozen eggs, asparagus and rhubarb when in season, a fresh chicken, kolaches, a pumpkin or squash. He was always sharing what he had. It was common for him to visit five or six towns within a 50 mile radius in a day.

In later years, he kept in contact by telephone with relatives around southeast Minn., northeast Iowa, Calif. and Mont. He enjoyed having relatives, friends and neighbors stop in to visit and reminisce. He would always ask about the outside temperature, the farm, livestock, calves and how the crops were coming. He enjoyed his outings and being driven around, pointing out where people had lived or a specific event that occurred there. His memory could take you back 70 to 80 years.

He is survived by his sister, Betty Lou Sexton, of Mabel, Minn. and nieces and nephews.
