Chatfield approves Sales Tax Agreement with Rochester

Fri, Jul 26th, 2013
Posted in Chatfield Government

The Chatfield City Council at its July 22 meeting approved the sales tax agreement with Rochester, Minn. accepting the sales tax money. Councilor Dave Frank was absent.

The agreement sets the terms for receiving the sales tax funding, which is to be used for economic development. Chatfield, Minn. will receive a total of $297,543.84 in two installments. The total distribution of $5 million will be distributed to the 17 cities to be apportioned according to the 2010 Federal Census data.

Chatfield will likely receive the first half of the distribution in the next month or so and the second half by July 31, 2014.

Cellular Dialer

for lift stations

• Wastewater treatment plant superintendent Darryl Haner asked the council to approve an upgrade of the dialer system at the two remote lift stations. Haner said it is currently costing $58.05 per month for landline service at each station or about $120 per month for phone services which are seldom used.

The council approved a quote from Quality Flow Systems, Inc. for cellular equipment and three years of cellular service at a cost of about $6,770. The savings due to the lower cost of service would allow for the new cellular system to be paid for in about eight years. Haner said the reliability will be as good as a personal cell phone.

Other Business In Brief

• The semi final or second payment of $73,976.97 to Pember Companies, Inc. was approved for the 2013 street improvements. The total contract amount of the work was $178,528.65. There is a $5,355.86 retainage until final touches like the establishment of grass are satisfied.

• The quarterly report for the second quarter was approved. A report prepared by Kay Coe noted the majority of funds are on track with budget predictions. Two exceptions include the EDA due to the purchase of the Hanson-Conway property which had not been a planned expense and Water infrastructure revenue, which is high due to a transfer of a debt service fund balance.

• The low bid from Schwickerts was approved to remove the chimney from the fire hall roof which has leaked since last fall. The area where the chimney was will be patched over and the furnace will be repiped. Some additional minimal maintenance of the roof will be done. The total cost of the work will be about $3,800.

• Approval was given to purchase a used 2006 truck .....
